The Canadian Penny was taken out of circulation on Monday, February 4th which has resulted in many businesses implementing the “rounding” of transactions.  The Canadian Canoe Museum’s Gift Store is in the process of installing a new Point of Sale system that will feature tax-included pricing with the “rounding” feature configured within the system.  So the price you see is the price you’ll pay!

Picture 004The deciding factors for this new concept included the demise of the penny, but also to assist the “young” consumer.  The forlorn look on the face of a young child when they find out they don’t have enough money to pay for an item because of tax also prompted the change.  We will also be altering our Member Discount program to a “Member Pricing” format instead.  There will be a few exceptions to the evenly rounded price though – customers entitled to an exemption of the Provincial portion of HST and certain percentage discounts will still have to be “manually” rounded for the lack of the penny.  We are confident that this new system will be beneficial to you our Museum’s visitors and perhaps we will start a trend for businesses!  And for those of you that would like a keepsake, the “Canoe Penny Scratcher” is still available in the Gift Store.

Now that it is 2013, we need to make room for the new products soon to arrive at the Museum Store.

The Museum Store is moving forward by having more Canadian made products available to you our customer.  Currently we provide Artisan Products made in house, items made by local artists, and some Canadian made products.

The initial step to this goal has been finding quality, made in Canada, t-shirts to replace the existing. So now is your time to save, selected t-shirts are reduced to 25% off. But it doesn’t stop there, come in and see our other sale products that are 40% off!

With exactly one week left until Christmas (eek!), we’re down to crunch time for those last-minute gifts. As we’ve mentioned before, you don’t need to look any further than the Canoe Museum Store for unique items for everyone on your list. There is only one more “Extended Holiday Shopping Hours” evening left, which is this Friday December 21st  from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. No need to battle crowds in the malls, get optimal parking outside our front door, and come in to buy for everyone on your list!

As Christmas is a time for rest and relaxation, the Museum will be closed for its’ rest and relaxation for a few days over the holidays. On December 24th, the Museum will be closed at 2:00 pm, so that everyone has a chance to go home and prepare for Santa! From December 25th to December 26th, the Museum will be closed to allow everyone a chance to relax by the fire with family and friends. The Museum will be open again from December 27th to December 31st, so that you can have something to do with the in-laws who just don’t seem to leave. For January 1st and 2nd, the Museum will be closed for everyone to adjust to the New Year. From January 3rd onward, the Museum will be back on regular scheduling, so that you can come in at your leisure to use those Canoe Museum gift cards that you received for Christmas.

To recap: The Museum will be closed on December 25th and 26th, as well as January 1st and 2nd. Hopefully, you’ll be able to come in for a visit between these dates; the soothing atmosphere of being surrounded by canoes and kayaks will be sure to alleviate your hectic holiday stresses!

Last night was the exhibit opening for the Museum’s latest addition, ‘A Walk with Kirk’. This exhibit tells the story of our founder, Kirk Wipper’s life.

To insure our visitors can take home a piece of their experience we have selected, and created items that represent this permanent addition to The Canadian Canoe Museum.
