Over the past 6 weeks the Canoe Museum’s multi-purpose event space has been getting quite the workout! We love opening our doors for public events and private rentals, and there has been such a diverse range of uses for our Education Room recently. Of course, our beloved Ed Room accommodates the thousands of children and youth who come to the Museum on school and class trips throughout the year. The room also plays double-duty as our main event space for so many different types of occasions:
The Canoe Museum has recently played host to 2 weddings, 2 surprise parties and an anniversary party.
On Thursday September 19th we hosted a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony, where 47 people of all ages officially became Canadians right here at the Canoe Museum! We are so honoured to have hosted this touching ceremony for the past 2 years.
This past Monday evening brought 170 local business owners and tourism operators to the Museum for a Creative Cocktail. This was an evening of mingling and networking with delicious food and drink. The event was held by the Peterborough Economic Development Corporation in partnership with Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism.
Wednesday September 25th was a proud day for the Canoe Museum when we hosted 2 noted Canadians: author Joseph Boyden and CBC’s Shelagh Rogers. This much anticipated (and sold out!) event was a night of great conversation, followed by a book signing and more delicious food and drink! We are incredibly humbled and honoured that Joseph has joined Shelagh as an official Ambassador at Large of The Canadian Canoe Museum. Welcome to the family, Joseph!
Speaking of authors, join us on Sunday October 27th for the inaugural George Luste Lecture. Author John Lentz will present his wilderness paddling stories in a presentation entitled “Five Decades of Wilderness Paddling: People and Places”. This lecture is a Members Only Event, so if you’re not a member yet join now by clicking here!
In the meantime, the Canoe Museum’s event space will continue to host many different groups. The Kawartha Youth Orchestra is playing an open rehearsal in the Education Room in celebration of Culture Days on Sunday September 29th. Admission to the Museum is free, so bring your family, tour the galleries, and enjoy the music!
Stay tuned for more public event listings to come! For more information on private facility rentals and use of our multi-purpose event space, visit our website or contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
